Sean Wilson

Sean Wilson is an Australian businessman with 20+ years of commercial and executive leadership experience, including 10+ years in Board-appointed CEO roles and Group Executive positions across operations, commercial, technology and product.

He has a proven ability to focus outward on public representation, brand, stakeholder relationships and long-term organisational vision, while also focusing inward on operational execution, internal processes, performance and team alignment. This breadth enables Sean to operate effectively as the CEO and public face of an organisation, as well as within an executive team, translating strategy into coordinated execution.

He is an expert generalist, with deep knowledge and practical experience across a wide range of functions, including commercial, operations, finance, HR, technology, data and organisational transformation. Having progressed from frontline operational roles to senior executive leadership, Sean combines strategic thinking with hands-on operational leadership and moves comfortably between board-level strategy and execution.

His executive experience includes CEO roles with BetterHR, Zonda and Kolling, alongside Group Executive and senior leadership positions including Chief Operating Officer at BetterHR, Group COO at Venturely, Commercial Director at Sharing Minds, National General Manager Sales & Marketing at HIA, National Sales Director at Sensis and IT Manager in government.

He has led multi-million-dollar businesses and multi-site, multi-function teams across start-ups, scale-ups, multi-billion-dollar organisations, industry bodies, not-for-profit organisations and government. This includes P&L responsibility of up to $89M, 300+ people across 30+ sites, 50,000+ members, 60,000+ SaaS users, 5,000+ B2B and B2G accounts and $1M+ strategic client relationships.

His track record includes 250%+ share value uplift (BetterHR), double-digit revenue and profit growth with 60,000+ users (BetterHR), 5,000+ accounts and 200%+ sales growth (Sensis), 50,000+ members and $89M revenue scale (HIA), turning loss-making operations profitable (Zonda, BetterHR, HIA, Sensis), $0 to $2M+ in sales (AIIM), fixing complex Board-level problems (Sensis, BetterHR, Kolling, Zonda), 5+ acquisition integrations (Zonda, Marine Seven), and 5+ successful exits (BetterHR, Zonda, ITBIZ).

Sean has served on boards and held governance roles for 10+ years including Company Director, Company Secretary and Public Officer, and has advised an MP and business leaders. He is comfortable operating at the intersection of executive leadership, ownership and governance, with a clear understanding of both organisational performance and board accountability. He also has a long history of community work.

His formal qualifications span business, governance, technology, human resources, legal services and engineering, complemented by admissions to professional bodies such as the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), Australian HR Institute (AHRI) and Institute of Technology Professionals Australia (ITPA).

In his early career, Sean worked in government leading IT, before founding and ultimately selling his own IT business, ITBIZ.

He is equally comfortable leading an enterprise, working closely with a CEO or Founder to turn strategy into performance, or sitting on a board providing expert advice, oversight and governance.
