Before recommending a solution, Sean Wilson typically starts by understanding the business properly.
Every new client engagement typically begins with a Business Health Check/Review. A structured review of the current situation, what is working, what is not, where the risks and opportunities sit, and what needs to change to achieve the desired outcomes.
It is not an audit or a generic business assessment. It is a practical, commercially focused review designed to get beneath the symptoms and understand what is really happening.
The scope is tailored to each business, but typically covers:
Strategy & direction — where the business is heading, its priorities and whether the organisation is aligned
Commercial performance — revenue, profitability, customers, products, pricing, sales performance and growth opportunities
Operations — how effectively the business gets things done, including processes, systems, capacity and execution
People & leadership — structure, capability, accountability, culture and leadership capacity
Technology & data — systems, information, reporting, automation and whether technology is helping or getting in the way
Financial & operational performance — the measures that matter, how performance is tracked and where value may be leaking
Risks & constraints — issues that could limit growth, increase costs or prevent the business achieving its objectives
Opportunities — practical opportunities to improve performance, simplify the business, reduce risk or create additional value
Sean combines conversations with the owner, CEO and leadership team with a review of relevant business information.
Depending on the business, this may include:
Financial and management reporting
Sales and customer information
Products, pricing and commercial models
Organisational structure and people capability
Processes, systems and technology
Strategy and business plans
Operational performance
Existing projects and areas of concern
Sean looks at both what is happening and why it is happening, rather than simply documenting the symptoms.
At the end of the Health Check/Review, Sean provides a practical assessment covering:
Current situation
A clear view of where the business is today and how its different parts are working together.
Key issues and opportunities
The issues having the greatest impact on performance, growth, risk or value.
Implications
What the issues mean for the business if they remain unresolved, and the potential benefits of addressing them.
Priorities
Where attention and investment should be focused first.
Recommended next steps
A practical view of what should happen next, including where Sean can help and where work may be better handled internally or by another specialist.
The Business Health Check/Review is designed to give the owner or leadership team clarity before committing to further work.
It can identify problems that may not be immediately visible, challenge assumptions about what is holding the business back and highlight opportunities that may otherwise be missed.
If further work is appropriate, the Health Check/Review also provides a much stronger starting point. Rather than spending the first few weeks working out what is happening, Sean can focus quickly on the issues that matter and the outcomes that need to be delivered.
The Health Check/Review therefore provides value in its own right, while also creating a clear basis for deciding whether further advisory, project or executive support is warranted.
Two Ways to Get Started
Every business is different, and the right starting point depends on the situation.
Sean Wilson offers two levels of initial business assessment.
From $1,500 + GST
A focused assessment for businesses that need an independent view of the key issues and priorities without undertaking a detailed diagnostic.
Sean will typically:
Meet with the owner, CEO or key leadership team
Understand the business, its objectives and current challenges
Review selected financial, commercial or operational information
Identify the most significant issues and opportunities
Highlight the likely implications
Recommend the priorities that warrant attention
The result is a concise, practical assessment of where the business is now, what matters most and what should happen next.
Typically 7–9 hours of work and completed within 2–5 business days.
From $3,000 + GST
A more comprehensive assessment for businesses facing significant change, growth challenges, performance issues or more complex problems.
Sean takes a deeper look across the business, potentially covering:
Strategy and direction
Financial and commercial performance
Customers, products and pricing
Sales and marketing
People and leadership
Operations and service delivery
Technology, systems and data
Processes and organisational capability
Risks, constraints and opportunities
This includes a broader review of available information and, where appropriate, discussions with additional members of the leadership team.
The result is a more detailed assessment of what is happening, why it is happening, what it means for the business and where effort is likely to deliver the greatest payoff.
Typically 15–20 hours of work and completed within 1–2 weeks.
Sean will help determine the appropriate starting point based on the situation.
For a relatively straightforward issue or an initial independent perspective, the Business Health Check may be all that is required.
Where the issues are broader, interconnected or less clearly understood, the Business Health Review provides a deeper diagnostic.
In either case, the objective is the same: understand the situation before deciding what needs to change.
Where further work with Sean follows directly from the assessment, the fee may be credited against the agreed engagement.
